It seems that Lisa's culinary entrance has shocked all into a state of summer salad stupor. Due to the dearth of food posts I have no other choice than to post photos of cute kids with huge fruits and veggies. These were all harvested on the estate.
Two apples for two apples of my eye
Kohlrabi the size of your stomach
curses! I started writing a new post this morning, and by the time I finished it this evening you had already made a new post! I suppose cute kids with fresh produce will always win in the end
ReplyDeleteCute they are! Are those apples from your tree the airplane swing is on? I don't remember any other apple trees on your "estate." Might Peter be thinking, as he points to the octopus-like veggie, that it's a new toy for him? It's kind of strange looking. What does kohlrabi taste like?
ReplyDeleteJust to clear up a little confusing matter I'll let you in on a little secret. These photos weren't edited, but the post is greatly compressed. The photo of Peter was taken last week and the photo of the girls was taken last fall. So if you're wondering why Ella doesn't look like she's had her hair cut, now you know.
ReplyDeleteThe apples are from our tree. This year the tree had a wonderful crop early on and many large apples, but they have all fallen early now. I ate one and it was pretty good. Ben ate one of the last windfalls. Ella ate part of one and got a stomach ache.
Kohlrabi is sort of strange looking. It tastes a little like cabbage and a little like turnips - which isn't surprising since it's a cross between those two vegetables. It's supposed to be harvested when it's 1-2 inches but ours are about 8 inches. We sliced it thick and grilled it but it is good raw, too.
